Feisty Freeze Issue Resolved
After removing every piece of hardware from my PC, trying every kernel parameter suggested, and still not resolving my PC freeze issue, I bought a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM. It was only when I removed the old motherboard that I noticed what was probably causing my problems: see the brown stuff leaking out of a capacitor in the picture below.
Since changing the motherboard, I have not had one freeze. I am now running Gutsy and compiz-fusion without any problems.

Yeah, I had that happen once - the capacitors leak do to excessive charge buildup or something. Dell Optiplex computers have that problem a lot.
